The fish will keep them in livewells and then take them to the weigh in station at the designated time or before. If you come in late most tournaments are a pound per minute penalty. The fish are weighed and then they are released back into the water.

After the weigh-in, the bass are released into the surrounding waters, usually in an area of the lake far from where they were originally caught. Thus, catch-and-release tournaments have the potential to displace fish outside of their known home ranges.

Do Fishing Tourney points carry over?
Any points that haven’t been used to redeem items (see Fish Swag Haul section) will carry over with the player to their island IF their fishing tournament is active on their island.
Can you sell to CJ after the fishing tournament?
Yes, you can sell to CJ after the tournament. As long as you’re a member of the tournament, you’ll be able to visit CJ after the fishing tournament to sell fish to him whenever you want.
How do you find bass in a tournament?
You may also want to check with your local tackle shop or ask other local bass anglers about clubs that they would recommend. Once you find a club, you can join or find out if the club holds any open tournaments that allow anglers outside of the club to participate.
Can you time travel to fishing tournaments?
Yes, you can time travel to fishing tournaments. Once Resident Services is upgraded, you’ll be able to use the time travel feature to travel back to the Fishing Tourney.
How long do fishing tournaments last in Animal Crossing?
The tournament begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 6:00 PM. The player is allowed to enter Chip’s tent during the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM to watch or participate in the award ceremony.
Are the Fishing Tourney prizes the same?
Every point you earn in the Fishing Tourney will translate to a different prize. You should get a different prize for each point you earn until you get all five types. You can trade in points at any time, so it’s not like you’ll have to go through the whole process only to get the same prizes.
What do they do with the blue marlin after they catch them?
Blue marlin are almost always released right back into the water after being caught by recreational fishermen. Unless it is during a prized fishing tournament. However, if the fish dies while on the line, there is a chance the fisherman will decide to keep the catch and eat it for dinner.
How often are fishing tournaments in Animal Crossing?
You can play four times per year in a fishing tournament. These tournaments happen on the Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (4pm) of each month at the community center.
